The National Competitiveness Commission [NCC] is a statutory body established by an Act of Parliament [Chapter 14:36], and falls under the purview of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce
(MoIC). The Commission is mandated to facilitate the creation of a competitive environment for Zimbabwean businesses through the development, coordination, and implementation of key policy
improvements required for domestic, regional, and global competitiveness. The Commission seeks to consider suitably qualified candidates for the following ‘Permanent Contract’ positions to be based in Harare offices

Reports To: Domestic & International Competitiveness Manager
The Competitiveness Analyst is responsible for conducting research, surveys, analyzing data, and providing strategic insights on domestic, regional and global competitiveness. The role involves
assessing Zimbabwe’s competitiveness performance, identifying constraints to competitiveness, benchmarking with comparator countries, and recommending policy measures to enhance the
country’s competitive position in regional and global markets.

Key Duties

  • Collect, process, and interpret economic and sectoral data related to productivity, competitiveness, trade, investment, and cost structures, and benchmark Zimbabwe’s performance against comparator countries.
  • Continuously monitor the cost drivers in the business and economic environment and advise on measures to be undertaken to enhance productivity, competitiveness, and address current and emerging costs challenges.
  • Identify sectors of the Zimbabwean economy that have potential for global competitiveness, whilst also paying due attention to issues of the structure and size of industry, technology
    gaps and skills, infrastructure and modernization needs.
  • Undertake competitiveness surveys such as the Executive Opinion Surveys, Future of Jobs Surveys, Business Perception Surveys, Rural & Urban Councils Competitiveness Index
    (RUCCI) Surveys and Innovation Surveys.
  • Contribute to the development of Zimbabwe Competitiveness Reports, national competitiveness strategies and policy frameworks to improve the ease and cost of doing business.
  • Analyse the country’s international competitiveness performance, namely scores and rankings under various indicators, to monitor competitiveness trends and prepare periodic
    reports and policy briefs on competitiveness.
  • Develop and maintain a national competitiveness database.
  • Engage with Government agencies, industry associations, chambers of commerce, business leaders, Development Partners, Civil Society and the academia on competitiveness-related
    initiatives.
  • Represent the Commission in forums, conferences, and policy dialogues related to competitiveness.
  • Support awareness campaigns to promote competitiveness and productivity best practices.

    Qualifications, Experience, and Attributes

  • Bachelor’s degree in economics, Business Administration, International Trade, Development Studies, or a related field.
  • A master’s degree in a relevant field is an added advantage.
  • At least 2–3 years of experience in economic research, policy analysis, or business competitiveness.
  • Experience in working with Government institutions, private sector organizations, or international agencies is an added advantage.
  • Traceable published work is an added advantage.
  • Strong analytical and research skills.
  • Proficiency in economic and statistical analysis tools (e.g., E-Views, SPSS, STATA, Advanced Excel).
  • Excellent writing and presentation skills.
  • Good understanding of global competitiveness frameworks.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment.
